by Martin Lock, John H. Marshall, Nick Neocleous, & Paul Naring
This was originally intended to be the ninth issue from Harrier Comics, but poor market conditions and an unsuccessful plan to convert to a larger anthology format ("Fortune's World") got us into dire trouble, and John took about 18 months to finish the artwork, in the end. As you will be able to tell, he went to a lot of trouble, and produced some stunning pages - but he also made a lot of changes to the script's pacing, as he wanted to experiment with larger panels. So, we have some great pages that are beautiful works of art - but we also have pages with lots of tiny panels as he tries to get caught up, and pages with a lot of word balloons in, instead of the natural to-and-fro of conversation from panel to panel. Luckily, I was able to persuade Paul Naring, a little later, to add some extra pages, to allow the return of some missing dialogue points, and a bit more fun and frolics... In case you can't guess, Paul is responsible for pages 5 to 8, and 19 & 20... not as finely-wrought as John's best efforts, but livelier and sexier, I think!
There are plans to publish this story in a special magazine project - but until the opportunity comes for you to obtain a (hard) copy, we have a web exclusive here for you! Be warned, to get a high quality picture and easily-legible lettering, the artwork for each page does download to you fairly slowly - you may want to have the next page downloading while you read the first page! To this end, we have links to the individual pages on the left, just click on the relevant page number...
So, the "Missing Link" revealed between the Harrier issues and the mission to Spektros. Not the most thrilling issue of BARBARIENNE ever, perhaps, but I am rather fond of it. We can even give it a letters page of its own now, if anyone wants to comment.
