UPDATE: The "Barbarienne Blog" is now up, with 60 days of adventure and intrigue narrated by Charol herself - handily for those of you without the eight original Harrier issues, it's those adventures that form the backbone of the story, though new tales have also been included, and changes made. Generally it's not particularly "adult", but it does have its moments!
Well, the script for the 10-page "You Want Me.... To Kill A Dragon...?" for Valkyries #2 is now with Paul; we've worked out the actual look of the dragon, and Charol's new costume, and the finished pages are starting to come in. Paul has completed "As I Walked Out, One Spring Morning", the first (12-page) chapter of a new serial planned to appear in a new British comic entitled Renegade. If it doesn't have Charol in it, I guess that young blonde, Emraine, must be the girl we later get to call Memree, right?
Our thanks to the people who've emailed for the password to visit the Barbarienne Clubhouse - down at the bottom of that page is a subtle little link called "album", which will take you to a Photosite album of Paul's pin-ups and sketches, some previously unseen. The best way to view them all is to click on the first central picture to enlarge it, and then hit the "next picture" button at your leisure to browse through!
As well as our Eros Comix issues, you will find an 11-page story starring Charol, in the days before she met Memree, in the first issue of Valkyries - published by Chimera Arts, the people behind the Skywald-style magazines 'Bedlam' and 'Usher'! The first issue also contains two tales drawn by cover artist Jon Doe, and a Skywald reprint. So, now you know why we have a link to Chimera Arts, run by John Gallagher, on our Links page! The magazine looks pretty good to me - the price by mail order is £2.00 or $5.00, and John is also advertising back issues of the two horror titles at the same price - check his site for details. The same story (in a slightly uncensored version) is also running in the "ashcan" Renegade #0.
The Eros Barbarienne issues 5 to 10 are available from the Eros Comix website - with more to follow during 2005! I've also recently discovered a store called Atomic Books in Baltimore, who offer a wide range of our sort of stuff, give story details and cover reproductions, and offer a fast and personal service - their "new this week" section is very useful, while browsing their "adult comix" section is a good way to pass an hour or two! Or just do a search for "Barbarienne" and "Sabina", of course... |
Visit the Barbarienne Clubhouse! We wanted to have something extra for our regular visitors, so you'll find exclusive news, special new art by Paul, and links to some new unfinished pages. You do need a password for that page (which should also work for our other passworded pages, including those on our sister "Sabina" site - so just e-mail me, letting me know that you're old enough for this sort of thing, and I'll get straight back to you, okay...?
Our intention has been to have a page for each issue of Barbarienne, with the cover, a sample page of interior artwork, and a story synopsis/comment piece; we have also reproduced the original text pages from the comics, including the unpublished text pages prepared for the third and fourth Eros Comix issues. "Eros style" text versions of the original first three Harrier issues are now online (see the "The Origin", "Captives of the Churmuk!" and "Escape Clause" link-buttons), so do check them out. The "thumbnail" covers over to the left are your links to the pages for the individual issues...
We now have six pages of "sketchbook" work by Paul for you to look at, with sketches of characters and costumes. Also on this site are the full text pages for all four early Eros issues - no mean feat, as Eros didn't actually print the second two, or half of Barby #2's either, so I ended up typing them in from rather faint old carbon copies in one of my Barbarienne files. I'd completely forgotten that, as well as the "buy more copies" and "tell your friends" entreaties, each of them contains a (fictional) letter giving some background to our characters - well worth checking out, I say! Use the thumbnails on the left to go to the main page for each issue, and take the "text page" link from there. |

A "blast from the past" - the original Harrier Comics back cover "house ad" for the Barbarienne series, drawn by Nick Neocleous - with colour separations hand-done by me, I seem to recall... |

Well, it seems that #10 was the final Eros issue of Barbarienne - so we are looking for a new publisher, unless we decide to do it ourselves. There is certainly one possibility we must chase up... |
